This year’s Rotary International Theme – The Future of Rotary is in your Hands – means to me that the Future of Rotary is in Our Hands. It is up to the members of the Rotary Club of Madison to continue to build upon the outstanding record of accomplishment we have earned. Everything starts and finishes at the club level. It is up to us.
We have only one Earth and One Humanity. For that reason we remain ever mindful of the critical role that a healthy environment plays in our world. We are also continually aware that, even in this seemingly idyllic shoreline community, there are needy people who can use our help.
In this time of budget limitations in a stressed economy, we will continue to stop at nothing to support the local and international programs that meet these objectives.
Our local programs will support Warm the Children, the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries, SARAH, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, Odyssey of the Mind, the Liberty Bank Food Bank, and much more.
Our international programs will support the goals of Rotary International President John Kenny on sanitation and clean water and those of Governor Colin Gershon on the environment. These include rainwater harvesting for school children in northern India as well as support for the renowned Haitian Health Foundation, which lies in one of the most environmentally distressed countries in the world.
I must admit to a selfish element in all this - these things make me feel good!
So, join us! Take time out of your busy schedule and learn how you can take the Future of Rotary into Your Own Hands with us in the Madison Shoreline and international communities. We meet every Thursday at 12:15 pm for lunch at Friend’s & Company on the Post Road. We look forward to your visit.
Yours in Rotary,
